Join us for a comprehensive day of professional development designed to enhance your skills in report writing and animal handling.
Professional Report Writing (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
In this session, led by James Taylor from the Midwest Animal Services Academy, we will dive into the critical aspects of proper report writing. Topics covered include:
- The importance of clear, concise report writing
- Techniques for gathering detailed information when receiving complaints
- How to avoid confusing case narratives
- Best practices for making effective field notes
- Writing a well-structured investigative report (case narrative)
- Key grammatical and structural rules for report writing
- Proofreading and finalizing your report
Lunch (12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
Lunch will be provided by the Sedalia Animal Shelter. Take this time to relax and network with other participants.
Animal Handling and Equipment Use (1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
In the afternoon, we will focus on animal handling techniques and the safe use of commonly used equipment. Topics include:
- An introduction to animal handling tools such as catch poles, snappie-snares, and live traps
- Animal capture techniques
- Safe lifting and transporting of animals
- Addressing the care and transport of injured animals
This practical session will provide hands-on experience, ensuring you are equipped to manage animals safely and effectively in the field.
